Incorporating Cannabis Into Your Workouts

Though many people may not realize it, cannabis can be a wonderful addition to your workout routine. Whether you’re partaking before your daily run or after, there are surprising benefits. Today we’re going to talk about some of the ways that you can use cannabis to help make your exercise regimen a little more pleasant and even potentially, a little more effective.

Cannabis Can Help Soothe Sore Muscles

One of the hardest things for many people when they start exercising is managing their soreness. After a heavy workout, many people experience something called DOMS, or “Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness”. It usually kicks in the day after exercise and can last. This phenomenon, though common, can be difficult to cope with. Thankfully, cannabis can help. Cannabis has an anti-inflammatory effect that can help manage DOMS.

Cannabis Can Help you Get Ready to Workout

Exercising requires a lot of emotional energy to get yourself ready to go. Even if you are someone who enjoys exercising, putting your body through a lot of paces day in and day out can lead to mental fatigue. Eventually, you could develop a negative association with working out. Cannabis can help you prepare mentally for your workout and reduce your chances of developing a negative association with exercising.

Improve Your Mood ‘

Cannabis’s ability to boost your mood in the short run may help you start to enjoy exercising more and lead to sweat more often. The sense of being present and enjoying your workout can help improve your workout no matter what you do for exercise. From yoga to weight lifting, your mood may benefit from cannabis throughout your workout.

Can Help You Exercise More

Since cannabis can improve a person’s mood before, during, and after a workout, they might be more inclined to exercise more often. A study by YorkWilliams et al., published in Frontiers in Public Health in 2019, revealed an interesting correlation between cannabis usage and exercise time. They found that out of 600 marijuana users who use cannabis close to their workout time, two-thirds of the group reported getting 40 minutes of exercise more than those who didn’t use it close to their workout time.
