What to Avoid When Making Cannabis Edibles This Halloween

With Halloween right around the corner, many people would prefer to skip the candy and opt for edibles instead. When done right, edibles are a safe and fun way to consume cannabis. However, if made incorrectly, your edibles can be a disaster. Here are a few common mistakes you’ll want to avoid while making your cannabis edibles this Halloween.

Spending Too Much Money on Flower

There’s no need to spend more money on flower cannabis than you need to. Good edibles don’t require premium flowers, nor do they require an excessive amount of flowers. When it comes to making edibles, a little goes a long way. Try using a ratio of 1:1 — one cup of oil to one cup of ground cannabis. You can even save money by using oil that is infused with shake.

Throwing Ground Cannabis Straight Into the Slow-Cooker

Before you throw your cannabis into the slow-cooker, you have to decarboxylate it first. You can do this by putting it in the oven. If you skip this step and immediately put your cannabis into the slow cooker, you risk worsening the taste of your cannabis and burning off essential cannabinoids. Decarboxylating your cannabis in the oven is a safer practice since you can set the temperature low and keep it steady.

Over Grinding the Cannabis

There is such a thing as over-grinding cannabis for edibles. Everyone wants an edible that gets them high, but no one wants their edible to taste like pot. One common misconception for newbie edible bakers is that the finer the bud, the better it will blend into the mix. But in reality, if the cannabis is grounded up too finely, it can intensify its grassy flavor and increase the green color. Instead, coarsely grind your decarboxylated cannabis with a hand grinder.

Not Stirring Enough

The last thing you want to happen is an uneven distribution of cannabis. We’ve all had that time when we consumed an edible, didn’t feel anything, but our counterparts are experiencing an intense high from the same batch of edibles. This means that you didn’t stir enough and the cannabis wasn’t evenly distributed. Make sure you are constantly stirring throughout the process. When you think you’ve stirred enough, keep stirring.
