CBD vs. THC: What’s the Difference?

Many Americans struggle with a wide variety of afflictions and illnesses, and have begun to use cannabis to help treat their pain. The two main forms of cannabis that people use are CBD and THC. At CannaLeaf Health, we’ve offered our medical marijuana services to Marylanders for a while now, and wanted to outline the differences between the two.

What is CBD?

Cannabidiol is most commonly referred to as CBD, and is the second most common compound found in cannabis. It’s very popularly used to relieve pain, and can be harvested from hemp and marijuana.

What is THC?

Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol, commonly known as THC, is the main psychoactive compound in cannabis. THC activates neurons in your brain, and causes the release of high levels of dopamine, a neurotransmitter that influences our pain and pleasure. It’s usually smoked, but can also be taken as capsules, edibles, or oils.

Key Differences

Both affect your endocannabinoid system, but the ways they do will vary. THC is psychoactive, which means it will give you a “high”, while CBD is non-psychoactive, so it won’t get you “high”. This is the main difference, though another important one to note is that THC comes from marijuana, but CBD is almost always sourced from hemp.
