Medical Cannabis Trends to Watch in 2025

Over the past several decades, the cannabis industry has changed quite a lot. Both medical and recreational cannabis have increased in popularity, and more people are using both in many states across America, including Maryland. The fact that more people have gained access to medical cannabis is such a great thing. At CannaLeaf Health, we have been at the forefront of the medical cannabis industry in Maryland and have helped a lot of people with our medical cannabis services. We wanted to take some time today to discuss where medical marijuana is currently and some medical marijuana trends we expect to see in 2025.

The Current State of Medical Marijuana

More and more states across the United States have adopted medical cannabis, passing laws legalizing it and giving millions access to the many therapeutic benefits associated with the drug. However, at a federal level, things have remained extremely stagnant. Federally, marijuana is classified as a Schedule 1 drug, lumping it in with other much more dangerous illegal substances like heroin, LSD, and ecstasy. Substances classified as Schedule 1 drugs are seen as having no accepted medical use, which clearly is not the case for medical marijuana.

Will Things Change Federally?

The fact that the DEA (Drug Enforcement Agency) has long maintained cannabis on its Schedule 1 list has greatly hindered the amount of research that can be done into medical cannabis, but there is reason to believe a change could be on the horizon. Momentum has been growing to move cannabis to the DEA’s Schedule 3 list, which would allow for even greater access to medical cannabis. We believe that there is a good chance 2025 could be the year this move is finally made.

More Innovation in Cannabis Products

The growth in the medical marijuana industry, as well as the growth in the number of people who have been benefitting from it, has led to a lot of innovation. There are more strains of cannabis for you to choose from today than ever before, and this is something that will only continue into 2025. Strains are constantly being cross-bred, which results in different strains of cannabis. There will be more great new flavors to look forward to in 2025. Look for some great new medical cannabis strains to hit dispensaries in 2025.
