What is the Veterans Cannabis Project?

The Veterans Cannabis Project is a non-profit that advocates for the use of medical marijuana in treating veterans who suffer from PTSD and other combat-related afflictions. They’re an organization we support, and we wanted to take some time today to outline precisely why we think their mission is valuable.

Medical Cannabis Helps Treat Trauma

The U.S. has troops deployed across the globe, many deployed in active combat zones. Our modern conception of PTSD can be traced back to the Civil War and World War 1, and while its name has changed from shell shock to battle fatigue to Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, the symptoms of the disorder have changed little.

Veterans who suffer from PTSD report symptoms of depression, increased anxiety, paranoia, flashbacks, insomnia, and many other symptoms. Many veterans have had great success managing these symptoms using medical cannabis.

The Veterans Cannabis Project Advocates for Medical Cannabis

The use of cannabis, be it by veterans or not, has been a contentious issue in the United States. Only recently, it has begun to be decriminalized and allowed for medical and recreational use. There’s an ongoing debate, one the Veterans Cannabis Project is participating in, over the usefulness of cannabis. But to the veterans who regularly smoke it, its usefulness has never been in question.
